Epocalypse: The Cashless Society Is Almost Upon Us

There has been endless discussion over the last few years about how we’re heading toward a cashless society and what that will mean. But never has it been as close as it is now. Numerous countries across the globe have begun actively taking steps to limit the use of currency and are rapidly initiating controls on its use. In conjunction with government policies, some banks are beginning to charge negative interest rates, actually charging customers for depositing their money. Others have begun refusing to allow that cash be stored in safe deposit boxes. Across the board, banking institutions and government are working hand-in-hand to shut down the use of cash. There are a number of reasons given for this, from convenience to security, but the underlying motive really is control.
